27) Book of Negroes, by Lawrence Hill, 486 pages, Harper Collins, 2007
WHY I PICKED IT: It was recommended by a friend
ELAPSED TIME: 15 days
RATING: Very Good

I really struggled to get into this story. It's a phenomenal tale, but the voice of the author didn't connect with me ... as I read the last third of the book in a day, and wasn't ready for the end of that tale, I must conclude that it was my own head and not a reflection on the author. Lawrence Hill covers a lot of ground with respect and detail, and is honest enough to acknowledge the help and take blame for any flaws in his journey. I would read more by him.
